Celtics announce signings of Garnett, 2 other players
After Kevin Garnett purportedly contracted to a three-year contract, The Boston Celtics have made it official more than a week. Their expressive leader has reconciled The Celtics also announced Saturday that forward Brandon Bass and center-forward Chris Wilcox have signed to stay behind with the team that made it to the Eastern Conference finals.
Garnett, the Celtics’ emotional leader, is the most important player returning, especially after Allen’s verdict to leave as a free agent broke up the Big Three of him, Garnett and Paul Pierce that won one title fight in five seasons together. Last season, the Celtics reached the Eastern Conference finals. Ainge said that he didn’t feel like we had misplaced Ray. He felt like Ray had left us to go to Miami. His primary target, though, was Garnett, who was presented a three-year contract while Allen reportedly was given a two-year proposal. Ainge said, that was a main concern for us this summer, to get KG back. That was a great thing to get him back. He’s such a big part of who we are and going forward we think he has a lot of NBA basketball left in him.
Garnett had an outstanding season, especially down the stretch and in the playoffs. He averaged 15.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists in his fifth season with Boston. Bass averaged 12.5 points and 6.2 rebounds after being obtained from Orlando. Wilcox, also in his first season with the Celtics, had surgery for an enlarged aorta after playing 28 games, averaging 5.4 points and 4.4 rebounds. Not much else going on in the NBA world in this season.
